Approach
If you’re new to therapy…. these are the values I bring to the therapeutic container:
01
Relational
Healing
02
Unconditional Positive Regard
03
Strengths-Based & Client-Led
RELATIONAL HEALING
Our work is collaborative
Healing happens in relationship
Collaborative
Cannot be replaced by AI
No hierarchy, I am not up here telling you how to live your life
Not giving advice (but I will offer suggestions if I have them)
I’m not going to sit there and not say anything
Psychotherapy offers an opportunity to experience relational healing. Research shows that the strength of the therapeutic alliance is one of the most significant factors in predicting treatment success.
Drawing on my training in counselling psychology, coaching and sex education, I support clients to explore new perspectives and tools. However, the core of my approach is always relational and client-led. I’ll meet you where you are, with empathy and unconditional positive regard.
It’s not always easy to predict client-therapist fit. Similar to dating, certain intangible qualities hinder or support the therapeutic relationship. That said, we may be a good match if you resonate with some of the things listed below.
UNCONDITIONAL POSITIVE REGARD
No matter who you are or what you share, you’ll be met with compassion.
This doesn’t mean we’ll ignore harmful behaviour. But you, as a person, will be viewed with unconditional positive regard.
From a place of genuine curiosity, we’ll explore your unconscious beliefs and work together to help you make choices that are congruent with your values.
STRENGTHS-BASED & NON-PATHOLOGIZING
You are not a problem to be fixed.
Diagnoses are vital for receiving medication, accommodations, and other necessary support. Unfortunately, labels can also create a deficit mindset where the focus is on what’s not working.
We’ll work together to uncover your unique strengths and view challenges with compassion.
Highly Sensitive People (HSP)
Have you been told you’re “too emotional?” I support clients to see the gifts of hyper-empathy and learn tools for emotional regulation and healthy boundaries.
Specialities
I work with a wide range of presenting concerns. However, below are areas where I have specialized experience and training.
Insecure
Attachment Style
Do you identify as having an anxious, avoidant, or disorganized attachment style? Therapy can provide the “secure base” needed to develop a secure attachment.
ADHD &
Neurodivergence
Whether you self-identify as neurodivergent or you’ve been formally diagnosed, we can explore adapting your environment and behaviours to better align with your needs.
Sexuality & Relationships
Are you considering ethical non-monogamy? Curious about kink? Exploring your bisexuality? I support clients to find the relationship structure and sexual dynamics that work for them.
Values
Culturally Responsive and Socially Just.
Neurodivergent Affirming. My approach to neurodiversity is strengths-based and non-pathologizing.
Sex Positive. After 20 years in sex education, I’ve heard a lot. This is a safe space to talk openly about your sexuality.
Queer Affirming.
Non-Normative: Whether you’re polyamorous, monogamish, living apart or engaging in other alternative partnership structures, you’ll be met with non-judgement.
Trainings & Certifications
The approach matters more than the modality, but these are the modalities I use primarily:
