Different Paths, Familiar Ground

It wasn't a dramatic falling out or a single decisive moment that brought Red Tent Sisters and Kim & Amy to a close. It was simply life — geography, growth, and the pull of individual callings.

Amy's move from Toronto to rural Nova Scotia, and the years of professional evolution that followed for both of us, gradually drew us toward our own separate practices and communities. Our interests, always adjacent, began to branch in distinct directions: Kim deepening her work in psychotherapy and intimate relationships in Toronto; Amy rooting herself in the land and people of Nova Scotia, and returning to her Occupational Therapy roots.

And yet — perhaps unsurprisingly to anyone who knew us — those separate paths have curved back toward each other.

We both now provide psychotherapy, working with different populations and through different lenses, but animated by the same underlying commitments that launched Red Tent Sisters in the first place. We remain deeply interested in emotions and communication. We are still dedicated to creating safe spaces for people to speak about the things the world too often asks them to keep quiet: sexuality, gender, menstruation, infertility, open relationships, and so much more. The topics have always been the same. The sisters have always been the same. We've just grown into ourselves a little more.

We no longer share a city — or even a province — but we still have a weekly phone call, and the friendship that has always been the foundation of this work remains very much alive. We swap resources, share what we're learning, and make each other laugh.

As for the future: we have ideas. We have hopes for collaboration that we can’t name just yet. What we built together before, we could build again — differently, and better, based on everything we now know.

For now, we close this chapter with full hearts and genuine gratitude — for the work, for the community, and for each other.
